Tyson Houseman is a Canadian actor. He starred as Quil Ateara in The Twilight Saga, films two through five.

Tyson is the son of Jennifer Houseman and comedian Howie Miller. Tyson’s father is of Cree First Nations (Native Canadian) ancestry. Tyson’s mother is white. They are pictured here.

Tyson has stated:

My father was the only person I ever knew who had an aboriginal background, and he was adopted by a German family… I didn’t grow up as an aboriginal person, but I wish I had more of a connection and knowledge of my roots – because now, I’m trying to be a role model for the community. This was a feeling that’s been building up over the years since I landed the part on Twilight, especially when I found out that aboriginal kids tend to look up to actors like me.

Tyson’s maternal grandfather is Dennis Houseman (the son of William Henry Houseman and Dorothy Williams). Henry likely was born in Saskatchewan, the son of George Webster Houseman, who was from Nebraska, and of Alice Rose Greenfield, who was from England. Dorothy likely was born in Ontario, the daughter of Joseph Williams, to parents from either England or Wales, and of Eliza Ellen “Nellie” Drury, who was of English descent.

Tyson’s maternal grandmother is Marilyn Metzger (the daughter of Elmer Daniel Metzger and Mary Agnes Kennedy). Elmer was born in Alberta, to ethnic German parents from Russia, Gottlieb Metzger and Christina Lindeman. Mary was born in Alberta, to American parents, James P. Kennedy and Mary Edna.
