Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato Cancel North Carolina Gigs Over HB2 Law

American singers Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato have became the latest stars to cancel concerts and shows in North Carolina over the state’s new HB2 law.

Nick and Demi were due to perform in the state during their Honda Civic Tour; Future Now, but they have now decided to cancel their shows in support of the LBGT community.

The recently passed HB2 law is also known as the “bathroom law,” because it requires transgender people to use bathrooms for the gender assigned to them at birth. But the law has a much bigger impact than that, because it also eliminates legal protections for members of the LGBT community.

Jonas and Lovato have always been avid supporters of the LGBT community and believe that everyone should be treated equally.

They released a joint statement on Twitter, outlining the reasons behind their decision to cancel the shows in North Carolina;

“After much thought and deliberation, we have  decided to cancel our Honda Civic Tour: Future Now shows in Raleigh and Charlotte. One of our goals for the tour has always been to create an atmosphere where every single attendee feels equal, included, and accepted for who they are. 

North Carolina’s discriminatory HB2 law is extremely disappointing, and it takes away some of the LGBT community’s most basic rights and protections. But we will not allow this to stop us from continuing to make progress for equality and acceptance. 

WWe know the cancellation of these shows is disappointing to our fans, but we trust that you will stand united with us against this hateful law.”
